Lightning Fall in Season Opener

The Lehman College men's tennis squad dropped their opener at USMMA 9-0.  It was the season opener for the Mariners as well.

The Lehman doubles team of Michael Forte and Richard Williams put up a tough fight but fell 8-4 to James Hicks and Dan Zakrevski.  The Mariners went on to win the other two doubles matches 8-1 and 8-0 to take a 3-0 lead after the doubles competition.

Williams again had a strong showing in singles.  Playing in the number two spot, the freshman after falling in the first set 7-5, rallied to win the second set 6-4.  With the Mariners having already clinched the match the Zakrevski (USMMA) and Williams played a tie breaker to determine who would take the final point.  Williams came up short 17-15.  In other singles matches, Michael Forte (#1) was blanked.  Won Sik Park playing at number three fell 6-2 and 7-5.  Nikolai Levasov (#4) lost 6-2, 6-1.  At fifth singles Frankelly Ortiz, was defeated 6-1, 6-0.  Chris Velez playing out of the six hole, started strong falling 7-5 in the first set but faded in the second dropping it at love.

Lehman is scheduled to compete in their home opener on Thursday afternoon against conference foe Baruch.
