The Lehman College men's tennis squad dropped their opener at USMMA 9-0. It was the season opener for the Mariners as well.
The Lehman doubles team of
Michael Forte and
Richard Williams put up a tough fight but fell 8-4 to James Hicks and Dan Zakrevski. The Mariners went on to win the other two doubles matches 8-1 and 8-0 to take a 3-0 lead after the doubles competition.
Williams again had a strong showing in singles. Playing in the number two spot, the freshman after falling in the first set 7-5, rallied to win the second set 6-4. With the Mariners having already clinched the match the Zakrevski (USMMA) and Williams played a tie breaker to determine who would take the final point. Williams came up short 17-15. In other singles matches,
Michael Forte (#1) was blanked.
Won Sik Park playing at number three fell 6-2 and 7-5.
Nikolai Levasov (#4) lost 6-2, 6-1. At fifth singles
Frankelly Ortiz, was defeated 6-1, 6-0. Chris Velez playing out of the six hole, started strong falling 7-5 in the first set but faded in the second dropping it at love.
Lehman is scheduled to compete in their home opener on Thursday afternoon against conference foe Baruch.
