Bronx, N.Y. -- In their final regular season match of the 2017 season, the Lehman College men's tennis team went out on a positive note by defeating Rutgers-Newark, 6-3, Thursday afternoon at the APEX Tennis Courts.
Prior to the match, the Lightning honored
Adriel Grant for Senior Day. He was recognized for his seasons with the team, and was given a plaque by the college and took pictures with his team.
In singles play, Lehman took four out of the six matches.
Jason Strudwick earned a No. 1 singles win with a 6-4, 6-2 victory then
Michael Forte had to play into a tiebreaker in the second set but was able to pull out a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 2 singles.
Richard Williams (6-2, 6-4), and
Won Sik Park (6-1, 6-4) were the other winners.
Doubles action saw the team of Strudwick and Williams battle but hold on for the 8-6 win in the No. 1 spot. Forte and
Jeffrey Lecitona grabbed a No. 2 win at 8-2.
Lehman will now move onto the CUNYAC Tournament quarterfinals, where they will host Brooklyn College Friday afternoon at the APEX Tennis Courts. First serve is set for 4:00 p.m.
