Tennis Grabs First Victory of the Season

Box Score The Lehman College men's tennis (1-2) team returned to the APEX courts on Friday for a home tilt with St. Joseph's College Long Island (0-2). With rain threatening throughout the afternoon and winds gusting above 20 mph over the late stages, the Lightning registered their first win of the season, 7-2. Lehman jumped out to a 3-0 lead following doubles wins at all three flights. Juniors Oscar Garcia and Steven Forte got the ball rolling for the Lightning with an 8-1 win at #1 doubles. Senior Ioannis Vasos and Junior Christian Agudo fought back from a 0-3 deficit to take the #2 match, 8-6. At the #3 position, it was Freshman Richie Magaribi and Sophomore Kenneth Davis leading wire to wire in their 8-5 triumph. Singles action saw wins from Davis at #5, 6-1, 6-0 as well as Forte at #1, 1-0 ret. The clincher came from Vasos, 6-1, 6-0 at #2. Garcia had to fight back from a set down, but he pulled out his #3 spot, 2-6, 6-2, 10-3. The Lightning (1-2, 0-1) return to action next Friday at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing against CUNYAC rival, Baruch (3pm). They return home to the APEX on Saturday, April 9th to host Albertus Magnus College at 1pm.
