Lightning Topple Cannoneers

Box Score The Lehman College men's tennis team returned to the APEX on Friday hosting Pratt Institute in a non-conference match. The Lightning (2-5) prevailed 7-2.

Doubles set the stage for the Lehman win. The Lightning struck first with an 8-1 win at #2 doubles behind strong volleying and a couple of early service breaks for Senior Ioannis Vasos and Sophomore Christian Agudo. Freshman Richie Magaribi and Sophomore Kenneth Davis had a emphatic showing at #3 doubles, 8-2. Their win was followed moments later by a win at #1 doubles. Juniors Steven Forte and Oscar Garcia turned around a rough start to win 8-3.

Singles action saw the Lightning clinch in a flash. Steven Forte won 6-0, 6-0 at #1. Oscar Garcia took the #3 flight, 6-1, 6-0. Christian Agudo recovered from a set down at #4, 2-6, 6-4, 10-7.

The Canoneers received a strong performance at #2 singles. Lehman's Ioannis Vasos never built any momentum in a 6-2, 6-1 loss to Ryan Nelsen. Davis took his first set for the Lightning at #5. However, Johnny Xie pulled it out in three for Pratt, 1-6, 7-5, 11-9. Richie Magaribi picked up the last win of the day for Lehman. Magaribi took a nail biter, 6-4, 2-6, 14-12.

Saturday's scheduled matches with York and Vaughn are canceled. The Lightning return to action on Tuesday with a road match at Western Connecticut. First serve is scheduled for 3pm. Lehman returns home on Wednesday for a rematch with conference rival, Hunter, 3pm.
