Lightning Sides In Action on Wednesday

Bronx, N.Y. – Two Lehman College athletic teams will see action on Wednesday afternoon as the softball side travels for CUNYAC twin-bill at Brooklyn College, while men's tennis squad hosts Hunter College in a non-conference affair.

After facing off in CUNYAC match-up earlier in the season, the Lightning tennis team (2-5) will take on Hunter Hawks (3-3) in a non-conference encounter at The APEX courts with the first serve set for 3:30 pm ET.  Hunter won the previous encounter against Lehman, 9-0, at The APEX courts on March 23rd

The Lightning are coming off a 7-2 non-conference victory against visiting Pratt Institute Cannoneers last Friday at The APEX courts.  After Lehman went three-for-three in the doubles matches, Christian Agudo, Steven Forte, Oscar Garcia and Richie Maagaribi were also victorious in their respective singles encounters.

Meanwhile, the Hawks dropped an 8-1 non-conference match at Ramapo College last week.

Elsewhere on Wednesday, the Lightning softball squad (6-6, 4-4 CUNYAC) will square off against Brooklyn Bulldogs (2-14, 0-10 CUNYAC) at Brooklyn College Field with the doubleheader's first pitch set for 4:30 pm ET.

Lehman is coming off a two-game CUNYAC sweep at York College-NY last Friday at Padavan-Preller Field in Jamaica, N.Y., outscoring the hosts by a combined score of 58-12.

The Lightning took the opener 31-4 over the Cardinals with Doribel Duran leading the offense going three-for-four with five RBI and four runs scored.  Sky Mercado pitched four innings for the Lehman victory on the mound. In the nightcap, the Lightning emerged 27-8, as Lizbeth Perez led the way with two homers and drove in a total of eight RBI, while crossing the plate four times.  On the mound, Jessica Perez pitched five strong innings and struck out six batters for the Lehman win.

Meanwhile, the Brooklyn Bulldogs dropped a pair of conference games at Baruch College, 9-1 and 10-9 (eight innings) at New Rochelle's Flowers Park last week.

Brooklyn holds a 16-13 advantage in the head-to-head meetings against Lehman since 2007, however the Lightning have won the last 11 encounters.  The previous match-up against the two sides took place on Apr. 11th at South Field with Lehman taking both games of the conference doubleheader, 10-8 and 13-10, respectively.
