Barbara Meda gave the Lehman College women's soccer team a berth into the CUNYAC Championship Finals next weekend after defeating visiting CCNY, 3-2, during the semifinals on Saturday at South Field. The Lightning improved to an 11-4 overall record, while the Beavers dropped to a 3-10-2 mark.
Lehman opened the scoring the eight-minute mark with a goal from Castro off a pass from midfielder
Emily Huerta.
The Lightning made it 2-0 three minutes later as Castro notched her second tally of the game off a double assist from Huerta and Meda.
In the second half, Meda got on the score sheet off a free kick to give Lehman a 3-0 advantage in the 57th minute.
After the Lightning's Huerta was shown a red card in the 74th minute, the Beavers took advantage to get back into the game and 10 minutes later midfielder Maria Chartzoulakis scored to make in 3-1.
CCNY midfielder MacKenzie Moreno's tally with less than a minute remaining made it 3-2, however Lehman held on for the win.
The 11 overall victories by the Lightning are the most in a season since the 2015 campaign.
Lehman will now face John Jay College, which eliminated Brooklyn College (6-0) in the other semifinal, in the CUNYAC Championship Final next Saturday (November 9th) at Queens College with kickoff set for noon.
