Women’s Soccer Defeats York-NY For First Victory

Bronx, N.Y. – Two goals by midfielder Christalyn Thomas led the Lehman College women's soccer team to its first victory of the season as it defeated visiting York College-NY, 4-0, in a CUNYAC encounter, at South Field, on Saturday. The now playoff bound Lightning go to a 1-12 overall record and 1-3 in conference play, while the Cardinals dropped to a 2-9 mark and 0-4 in CUNYAC action.

Thomas opened the scoring for Lehman in the fourth minute with an unassisted tally, while midfielder Hailey Suquilanda notched her first goal of the season 33 minutes later off an assist from defender Sandra Konadu.

Forward Natalie Kola, who played her last regular season game with the Lightning uniform, made it 3-0 as she scored via a penalty kick in the 57th minute-mark. Eleven minutes later, Thomas closed out the Lehman scoring with her fourth goal of the campaign off a pass from defender Jeyssi Bermudez.

Goalkeeper Katelyn Rice made four saves for the Lightning as she earned her fifth collegiate shutout.

Lehman is the number fourth seed in the upcoming CUNYAC Championship and will face the number one seeded John Jay College in the tournament semifinals next Saturday (November 1st).
