Bronx, N.Y. – Forwards
Jensy Peri,
Charlize Valentin, and midfielder
Emily Huerta each netted two goals to lead the Lehman College women's soccer team to its second consecutive 8-0 victory over Medgar Evers College on Tuesday evening, this time in a CUNYAC clash at South Field. With the dominant win, the Lightning move to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play, while the Cougars drop to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in CUNYAC action.
Lehman wasted no time attacking, as Peri opened the scoring in just the second minute off a pass from Huerta. Valentin followed up four minutes later, blasting home her first of the match off another Huerta assist to quickly make it 2-0.
The onslaught continued in the 13th minute when Peri secured her second tally off an assist from forward
Amy Quintuna. Huerta then turned from playmaker to goalscorer, finding the back of the net in the 22nd minute on a feed from Peri to put Lehman up 4-0.
A pair of milestone goals closed out the first half. Midfielder
Karen Marin hammered home her first collegiate tally in the 32nd minute, and just three minutes later, forward
Vivian Villeda mirrored the feat with her own first collegiate goal to send the Lightning into the break with a 6-0 cushion.
Lehman kept the pressure on in the second half. Valentin notched her second goal of the match in the 53rd minute, and Huerta capped off the scoring evening with 16 minutes remaining on the clock.
In net, Lightning goalkeepers
Leonor Ramirez-Vasquez (one save) and
Katelyn Rice (two saves) each played a half to split the combined shutout.
