Softball Falter In Twin-Bill Against New Jersey City

Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College softball team fell in a non-conference twin-bill (3-1, 10-9) to visiting New Jersey City University at South Field on Wednesday.  The Lightning go to a 1-23 overall record, while the Gothic Knights improved to a 6-30 mark.

Lehman jumped out to a 1-0 lead after three innings in the opener, however New Jersey City scored three runs in the next two innings to hold on for the victory.  Pitched Damaris Adames was one-for-two and the plate with a run scored for the Lightning, while outfielder Leilani Tejada was one-for-three with an RBI.

In the nightcap, Lehman once again led early with a surprising 7-2 advantage after four innings of action.  After each side score twice in the fifth, New Jersey City went on a 6-0 run in the next three innings to pull out the victory.  The nine runs were also the most the Lightning scored since March 8th.  Shortstop Patty Sanchez led the Lehman offense by going two-for-four with a homer, two runs scored and RBI, while infielder Nicolle Swierczek was three-for-four and scored twice.  Outfielder Catalina Hernandez went two-for-three with two runs scored, while teammate Zenaya Ortiz was one-for-three with two RBI.

Lehman will be back in action on Friday (May 1st) when it hosts York College-NY in a tripleheader (one non-conference game; then two CUNYAC encounters) at South Field with first pitch set for 1:30 pm ET.
