Gary Gonzalez returns as the goalkeeper coach for the the Lightning men's soccer staff for the 2014 season. This will be his fourth season working at Lehman. He previously served in the same capacity for the 2009, 2010, and 2013 seasons.

During his first two years, the Lightning advanced to the CUNY Athletic Conference Quarterfinals and Finals.

A 1995 graduate of LIU – Brooklyn, he served as the head coach for Taft High School a year ago, leading the boys’ team into the PSAL playoffs.

Complimenting his coaching experience is his understanding of the game from a player’s perspective. A four-year scholarship recipient at LIU, played on the Puerto Rico National Team in pre-qualification for the 1994 World Cup. Additionally, he played internationally for the Barcelona S.C. and Liga Universitario de Portoviejo, in Ecuador’s First Division, before finishing up in U.S., with the North Jersey Imperials of the USISL, and the Brooklyn Knights and the Bronx Rockers.

A Bronx native, he attended Columbus High School, and eventually earned his Master’s Degree from Mercy College in Special Education. He is a certified teacher in New York State. He is married to Vicky Gonzalez, and they reside in the Bronx with their children, Victoria (15), Kasanndra (14), Gabriel (4), and Antonio (3).
