Lehman College Director of Athletics Ryan McCarthy has named Christopher Mills as the next Assistant Coach of the Lightning’s Cross Country and Track and Field Teams.

“Chris is an accomplished sports professional with extensive experience in coaching, program development, and sports management, commented McCarthy. “With a career spanning over two decades, Christopher has demonstrated a strong commitment to enhancing athletic programs and fostering the growth of athletes at various levels.

Prior to his arrival in the Bronx, he served as the Director of Cross Country and Track & Field at American International College in Springfield, MA, Christopher oversees all aspects of the program. His role involves supervising and developing a team of coaching staff, managing athlete recruitment and scholarships, and ensuring compliance with NCAA and NE-10 Conference regulations. Under his leadership, the number of athletes has increased significantly, and he has also been responsible for maintaining and managing the track & field facility.

Before joining American International College, Mills served as the Head Coach for Cross Country and Track & Field at St. Francis College in Brooklyn, NY. During his tenure, he successfully expanded the athlete roster from 30 to 70 in just two years and managed all facets of the program, including staff training, recruitment, and budget management.

In addition to his collegiate coaching roles, Christopher has also made significant contributions as a Site Director for the City Parks Foundation in Manhattan, NY, where he has been responsible for the daily operations of a Track and Field Summer Camp, overseeing a team of counselors, and providing mentorship and conflict resolution for youth.

His career began with notable roles at Holy Family University, ASA College, and World of Discovery Summer Day Camp. At Holy Family University, he was promoted to head coach in his first year, growing the team and leading athletes to CACC championships. At ASA College, he established the college's first track and cross-country programs, and at World of Discovery, he managed recreational activities for a large group of children.

Mills holds a Master’s in Administration from Touro College and a Bachelor’s in Social Studies with a minor in Secondary Education from St. Francis College. His achievements include being a Northeast Conference champion in the 800 meters and earning recognition as the Most Valuable Runner at St. Francis College. Additionally, he is USATF Level 1 certified.
