Sovanny Kon Ebbesen began her tenure at Lehman on January 5, 2017. A native of North Pole, Alaska, Ebbesen was a standout performer in high school before moving onto play volleyball at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. A defensive specialist, Ebbesen was a four year letter winner and captain her final two seasons for the Nanooks. A 1995 graduate, Ebbesen holds a B.A. in both Economics and Business Administration.
”I am extremely excited to become a part of the Lehman College family and immersing myself in the Bronx community. I am grateful to Dr. Zwiren for the opportunity to represent the Men’s and Women’s Volleyball programs and will strive to become a positive contribution to the lives of the student-athletes,” commented Ebbesen upon accepting the job.
This past season, Ebbesen was the Assistant Volleyball Coach at Williston State College in Williston, ND. Her Teton squad ended the season with a record of 18-17. In this role she developed practice plans for Individual practice sessions, training and conditioning, overseeing student academic progress, recruitment, game strategy, skills development and administrative duties. Before moving to the college ranks, Ebbesen, was the varsity coach at Lathrop High School in Fairbanks. While there she posted a mark of 112-19 including four regional championships in her six seasons at the helm.
During her tenure as a high school coach she also was the head coach for the Alaska Junior Volleyball Club where she guided the U16s while being the club administration for girls ages 11-18.
