WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL THRASHED BY MONTLCAIR STATE UNIVERSITY IN THREE SETS

The Lehman College women's volleyball team (13-11 Overall, 5-3 CUNYAC) dropped a non-conference match, falling to Montclair State Redhawks (16-11 Overall, 6-1 NJAC) by scores of 25-17,25-14, and 25-18 Friday night at the APEX.

The Redhawks were led by Devon Johnston who put forth a phenomenal performance for her club as she tallied a match-high 17 kills to go along with 11 digs. Anna Chesnakova also contributed with 10 kills, and Kristen Ruggieri added 21 assists, five service aces and seven digs. Adrienne Moe also tallied 11 assists and two assists. As a team, Montclair State University hit .185.

In a losing effort for the Lightning, Gerri-Ann Martin led the way with eight kills to go along with three digs. Setter Lisa Jagdeo added 11 assists and two service aces, and captain Jillian Acevedo played very well defensively, as she contributed with a match-high 15 digs. The Lightning struggled with their hitting on the evening as the team hit -.061. Following the match, Head Coach Daniel Skilins expressed his thoughts on the loss.

“I don't believe we put our best feet forward in this match, and I think we have to straighten some things out before John Jay comes into this building on Tuesday evening,” Skilins said. “Hopefully we'll be at full strength and we'll have all the girls for the match against the Bloodhounds. I believe we'll bounce back.”

The Lightning return to action on Tuesday evening for their season finale as the team hosts the John Jay College Bloodhounds, with match time scheduled for 6:00pm. Should Lehman win the match, it will clinch a CUNYAC quarterfinal round home contest on November 4th. Prior to the Lightning's tussle with the Bloodhounds, the Lehman College athletics department will take a few moments to honor lone senior Christy Pasqualicchio in a pregame ceremony.
