WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL DROPS FIRST MATCH OF SEASON, FALLS 3-0 TO HUNTER COLLEGE

The Lehman College women's volleyball team (3-1 Overall, 2-1 CUNYAC) fell for the first time this season, dropping a conference match to the Hunter College Hawks by scores of 14-25, 14-25, and 15-25 Tuesday evening at Hunter's Sportsplex in New York, NY.

Despite the loss for the Lightning, outside hitter Gerri-Ann Martin led the way for Lehman as she finished with a team high six kills. Sophomore outside hitter Jillian Acevedo also contributed for the Lightning with a match high 15 digs.

Hunter was led by standout Amanda Kamm as she tallied a match high 12 kills to go along with four assists and three service aces. Middle blocker Tracey Igwe also chipped in for Hunter, as she finished with six kills and three solo blocks, and Olga Petrenko added six kills while also tallying four digs.

Despite the loss for the Lightning, Head Coach Daniel Skilins stayed positive about his team's effort and believed the team was making strides.

“We've been playing with plenty of energy in the early stages of this season, and it is very encouraging to see,” Skilins said. “We gave it everything we had tonight, just as we did this past Saturday during the multi-match. We're going to continue to get better and hopefully we'll win as many conference matches as possible. It should be fun.”

The Lightning will return to action tomorrow night as the team takes to the road to battle the College of New Rochelle in a non-conference match, with start time scheduled for 7:00pm.
