The Lehman College women's basketball team (8-6 Overall, 3-1 CUNYAC) picked up another impressive road victory as the team defeated the Hawks of Hunter College (4-6 Overall, 2-2 CUNYAC) by a score of 82-55 Friday evening at the Hunter Sportsplex in New York, NY. The victory served as one of the Lightning's most balanced efforts of the season.

The Lightning were led by the double-double of Whittney Barnes who dropped in 19 points while snatching 10 rebounds and recording two blocked shots. It was the standout's sixth double-double of the season. Stalwart Sally Nnamani also put forth a terrific game, scoring a game-high 22 points to go along with nine rebounds, three steals, and two blocks. Junior point guard Tonisha Kirby also chipped in with a tremendous all-around performance, dropping in 16 points, dishing nine assists and tallying four steals. Head Coach Eric Harrison was very pleased with the victory.

“This was a hearty performance by our team this evening,” Harrison said. “It was tough to lose the way we did to Staten Island this past Wednesday, and our players came out tonight fired up and ready to go, and I felt like we were hitting on all cylinders, especially during the last five minutes of the first half and the entire second half. Now we'll enjoy a nice weekend and then we'll start getting ready for a big game with the Bearcats on Friday evening.”

The Lightning trailed by as many as seven in the first half as the Hawks held a 24-17 lead with 4:53 remaining in the session. Lehman, however, finished the first half on an impressive 19-11 run, taking a one point lead, 36-35, into the locker room at halftime. The second half saw the Lightning outscore the Hawks 46-20. Lehman shot 52.6 percent from the floor in the first half and 45.2 percent for the game. Also in the victory, Nnamani's 22 points pushed her into second place on the all-time CUNYAC scoring list with 1,847 points. Camile Manning, who had been with the New York City College of Technology Yellow Jackets from 1987-1991, currently held second until the Warwick High School product's big night pushed Manning down to third.

Despite the loss for Hunter College, the Hawks were led by Junita Whyms who posted a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, and Andrea Buckham also contributed with 14 points and seven rebounds. The Hawks shot just 29 percent from the floor for the game while committing 26 turnovers.

The Lightning will now have six days off before returning to action next Friday night at the APEX Center, as Lehman College and Baruch College go head to head for the first time since the Bearcats defeated Lehman co capture the 2007-2008 CUNYAC women's basketball championship back on February 22nd.
