WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO HUNTER COLLEGE HAWKS IN THREE SETS AT APEX

The Lehman College women's volleyball team (2-3 Overall, 2-1 CUNYAC) fell to Hunter College Hawks (5-5, Overall, 3-0 CUNYAC) in a conference match by the scores of 24-26, 14-25, and 27-25 Tuesday evening at the APEX Center in the Bronx. The Lightning were one point away from snatching the first set, but Hunter fought off match-point, took the opening set, and never looked back.

 

For the Hawks in the contest, sophomore Katina Boutis led the Hawks as she contributed a match-high of 28 assists and 10 digs.  Senior outside hitter Karolina Kogouc recorded a match-high eleven kills to go along with nine digs and Tracey Igwe helped out with 10 kills and three block solos. The Hawks hit .198 for the match and tallied 34 kills compared to the Lightning's 24.

 

Despite the loss, junior outside hitter Ashley Meany had a team-high nine kills to go along with eight digs while Gerri-Ann Martin added eight kills. Setter Lisa Jagdeo added a team-high 21 assists while junior libero Jillian Acevedo recorded a team high 15 digs. Even though the Lightning dropped the contest, head coach Wolfgang Lucena looked at the positives from the match.

 

“We went up against very competitive and talented team in Hunter College,” Lucena said “To see the team put forth such a gritty performance is every encouraging to me, and it seems like we're making a lot of progress. We just have to shake this one off and get ready for the next match.

 

The Lightning will return to action on Thursday evening as the team travels to Mount Saint Vincent to battle the Dolphins in a non-conference contest. Match-time is scheduled for 7:00pm.
