LEHMAN COLLEGE STUDENT ATHLETIC ADVISORY COMMITTEE AIMS TO HELP PEOPLE OF HAITI

As we are all aware, this past week the country of Haiti has been struck with an earthquake that has taken many lives, as well, as changed the lives of all who survived. With such a major disaster, many people in the United States and in Haiti have been affected. The Lehman College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee has decided to try and do its part to assist those in need by seeking donations to assist those in Haiti.

Starting today, the committee will be collecting donations to assist the Life Church of Allentown, Pennsylvania, who had an orphanage that they created destroyed by the earthquake. The Life Church has been big in the development of Haiti, before the earthquake. The church established an orphanage, and staff members of the orphanage rotated their time all year to help the continued the development of projects in Haiti. As news of the earthquake hit home, the representatives of the church packed their bags and supplies and went to be part of the rescue operation. Below are a pair of links from MSNBC stories that have been on the national spotlight, to better your understanding of what Life Church is trying to do in Haiti.

The people in Haiti need our assistance now! The Student Athletics Advisory Committee is looking to collect donations, as well as canned items, medical supplies and anything that might assist relief efforts. The committee would like to ask for your assistance in this cause. There will be a box set up in front of the APEX Main Gymnasium to assist with canned food, and all donations can be delivered to Lehman College women's basketball head coach Eric Harrison or track and field coach Lesleigh Hogg. There will be a donation table set-up on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at the basketball doubleheader beginning at 5:00pm.

This is a great opportunity for people to make a difference. If there are any questions or concerns about the donation process, please contact Eric Harrison at 718-960-7175, or call his cell phone number at 347-665-7896.
