WAYNE, N.J. - Two tough non-conference foes stood in the path of the Lehman women's volleyball team on Saturday afternoon as part of a tri-match held on the campus of William Paterson University, and when action was complete it was the Lightning departing with two losses and an 11-9 overall record.
In the day's first match, Lehman took on the host Pioneers, losing 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-16).
Gerri-Ann Martin registered 13 kills and 11 digs to lead Lehman in both categories while setter
Jasmine Bermudez handed out 27 assists. Both
Shari Quiles and
Yamilka Vicente tallied five kills each. Sophomore
Andrea Vasquez was a standout on the defensive side, recording four solo blocks, with
Racine Brown also chipping in three. As a team, Lehman recorded 12 blocks during the match.
The Lightning's second match had it facing Misericordia University, and like its first match, the Lightning scraped until the end only to come away with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 27-25) defeat. For the second consecutive match Martin slammed 13 kills. Junior
Shayla Tompkins contributed seven digs. Bermudez added a little bit of everything in the loss with 17 assists, three service ace and six digs.
Lehman is back in action on Tuesday when it closes out the conference portion of its schedule with a match against John Jay.
