JAMAICA, N.Y. - On Tuesday night the Lehman women's volleyball team earned its second consecutive victory, topping host York College 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-22) to improve to 3-6 on the season.
The Lightning's win comes after Saturday's victory over John Jay as part of a quad match held at Ramapo College and ups Lehman's record to 2-1 in the City University of New York Athletic Conference.
Senior
Gerri-Ann Martin picked up 10 kills and 15 digs to lead the team in both categories.
Andrea Vasquez and
Jennifer Winkler each totaled seven kills with Winkler also notching eight digs and four service aces.
Shari Quiles, stepping in for No. 1 setter
Jasmine Bermudez, recorded 25 assists.
Following a relatively easy 25-16 first set win, Lehman was forced to withstand a late charge by York in the second, holding off the Cardinals after they had pulled to within 21-20. The Lightning proceeded to rattle off the final four points for the 25-21 win.
In the third, the roles were reversed as Lehman played catch-up for a majority of the set, eventually evening the score at 13-13. The teams then engaged in a back and forth affair that saw York within one point before Lehman took the final two on a kill by Martin and service ace by
Stephanie Novas to close out the match.
After six matches in eight days, the Lightning gets a much needed rest and will return to action a week from today when it travels to Brooklyn to face Medgar Evers on September 27.
