BROOKLYN, N.Y. - After enjoying a week off, the Lehman women's volleyball team marked its return to competition on Tuesday night, defeating host Medgar Evers 3-0 to improve to 4-6 on the season.
The final result was never in jeopardy as the Lightning cruised to the victory by the scores of 25-12, 25-14, 25-11.
Leading the way for the visitors from the Bronx was senior
Gerri-Ann Martin, who tallied six kills and seven digs. Three Lehman players –
Shari Quiles,
Andrea Vasquez and
Jennifer Winkler – each recorded four kills with Quiles also adding 13 assists to lead the team.
In addition, five members of the Lightning fired at least two service aces with Winkler's six leading the team and freshman
Jo-Marie Aquino serving up five.
Lehman will puts its two-game winning streak on the line when it returns to action on Sunday as part of a tri-match on the campus of SUNY Old Westbury. The Lightning will square off against St. Joseph's (BK) at 1:00 p.m. and then face the host Panthers at 5:00 p.m.
