RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Junior Stanley Stephens recorded his second double of the season with 17 points and 16 rebounds, but it was not enough, as the Lehman College men's basketball team lost to visiting St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn, 65-56. The game was played on Monday night, at the Peter Jay Sharp Center, on the campus of the College of Mt. St. Vincent, before 110 fans.
Lehman could not shake off poor shooting in the second half, making just 25.8 percent of their shots. For the game, Lehman shot only 29.0% from the floor.
The Lightning (4-2) held close through the first half, trailing just 33-28. Stephens made the most of his time, scoring 15 points in the first stanza, connecting on six of his nine shots.
In the second half, the Lightning would get as close as five points down at 51-46, with just 8:41 to play, when senior Alan Kellman (Mt. Vernon, N.Y./Mt. St. Michael's) made a layup. But the Lightning went cold from there, as St. Joseph's (5-3) went on an 8-0 run, busting the game wide open.
For the game, joining Stephens (New York, N.Y./Manhattan Center) in double-digit scoring was junior Erasmo Soto (Harlem, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman), who contributed 11 points and nine rebounds. Senior Quaseem Weems (Bronx, N.Y./Beacon) led the Lightning with 11 rebounds.
Lehman will return to the road for its next game, a Friday night affair at SUNY IT, in Utica, N.Y.
