Castro-Lopez Scores 18 as Lehman Hosts CCNY

BRONX, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's basketball team got off to a slow start on Saturday, and fell to City College, 61-34.

The Lightning struggled to find their rhythm in the first half, and but stayed in the game with good defense. The Lightning found an offensive spark, and cut the lead to 24-18 at the half.

In the second stanza, Lehman stayed close, as senior Jasmin Castro-Lopez (Bronx, N.Y./Wings Academy) hit a jumper with 18:12 to play, making the score 26-20 in favor of CCNY.

Castro-Lopez would score 12 of her game-high 18 points in the second half, but it would not be enough. Freshman Jennifer Navarro (Jamaica, N.Y./Grover Cleveland) scored seven points, followed by junior Keonti Powell (Bronx, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) with five, and freshman guard Shameeka Reed (Bronx, N.Y./Pocono Mountain West) with four. Powell grabbed eight rebounds on the day, followed by freshman Luisayra Madrigal (Bronx, N.Y./Msgr. Scanlan) with seven.

The Lightning conclude a three-game home stand, and will travel to face Baruch College on Wednesday, January 16.
