Women's Basketball Hits Triple Digits in Runaway Win Over Medgar Evers

BRONX, N.Y. – Five different players reached double digits in scoring on Tuesday night, as the Lehman College women's basketball team eclipsed the century mark, beating visiting Medgar Evers College, 105-47, in the CUNY Athletic Conference opener for both schools.

Three different Lightning (3-1, 1-0 CUNYAC) players reached the 20 point plateau, led by freshman Amely Del Rosario (Bronx, N.Y./John F. Kennedy), who netted 28 points. Sophomore Jennifer Navarro (Jamaica, N.Y./Grover Cleveland) went for 23, while freshman Genesis Liberato (Santo Domingo, D.R./Liceo Ramon Matias Mella) went for 21.

Lehman jumped out to a 4-0 lead, then extended that to 12-1. Medgar Evers (1-2, 0-1 CUNYAC) was overmatched all night, as Lehman never trailed in the game, leading 57-23 at the half.

In those first 20 minutes, Del Rosario exploded for 13 points, 10 assists, and five rebounds. For the game, she finished with 28 points, 10 assists, six rebounds, and eight steals.

The second half was highlighted by a four-point play by Navarro, who drained a three-pointer while being fouled, then converted the free throw. Lehman hit triple digits on a three-pointer by Liberato at the 3:01 mark, with an assist from sophomore Shameeka Reed (Bronx, N.Y./Pocono Mountain West).

Sophomore Amani Lightbourne (Elmsford, N.Y./Alexander Hamilton) recorded a double-double as well, with 16 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

The Lightning will take a brief break for the Thanksgiving holiday, and will host cross-Bronx foe Mt. St. Vincent on Monday, December 2.
