BRONX, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's basketball team clinched the #6 seed in the upcoming CUNY Athletic Conference Championships on Tuesday night, by defeating visiting York (N.Y.) College, 80—58, in a game played at the Lehman College APEX. Lehman will travel to the #3 seed, Staten Island, in the conference quarterfinals, on Saturday, February 16.
Today, Lehman (5-20, 5-11 CUNYAC) was led by junior Keonti Powell (Bronx, N.Y./John F. Kennedy), who poured in a career-high 32 points, while grabbing 15 rebounds. Jasmin Castro Lopez (Bronx, N.Y./Wings Academy), who was honored in a special Senior Day pregame ceremony, scored 23 points. Each dished out five assists.
York (3-22, 3-13 CUNYAC) opened the game with a basket on its first possession, before the Lightning went on a 15-0 run. York scored again before Lehman scored 13 consecutive points to run away with the game.
Lehman would lead by 27 points at the half, and by as many as 33, early in the second half.
On the evening, freshman Jennifer Navarro (Jamaica, N.Y./Grover Cleveland) would add 15 points, while junior Stephanie Miranda (Bronx, N.Y./Taft Educational Center) contributed eight points and eleven rebounds.
With the loss, York becomes the #8 seed, and will travel to face #1 Baruch College.
