BRONX, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's basketball team dropped an 80-53 decision to Baruch College on Friday afternoon, in CUNY Athletic Conference action. The game had been moved up to 3:00 p.m., in advance of Winter Storm Nemo.
Lehman (4-20, 4-11 CUNYAC) jumped all over the Bearcats early, taking an 11-4 lead, as junior sniper Keonti Powell (Bronx, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) hit three consecutive three-pointers.
The Lightning would continue to shoot the ball well in the first half, leading 14-8 at the 15:04 mark, as freshman Jennifer Navarro (Jamaica, N.Y./Grover Cleveland) made the first of her six three's on the day.
From there, Baruch (22-2, 14-1 CUNYAC) went on a 22-0 run, led by their defensive pressure. The top-seeded Bearcats took a commanding lead at 30-14, and cruised to the 54-31 lead at the half.
For the day, Baruch forced 18 Lehman turnovers, which directly led to 25 points. Baruch also won the battle of the boards, 53-31.
Leading the Lightning was Powell, who scored 23 points, followed by Navarro with 22.
Lehman will finish the regular season by hosting York College on Tuesday, February 12, in a game that will ultimately determine the final standings. Lehman can finish as high as sixth with a win on Tuesday.
