Box Score

TEANECK, N.J. – The Lehman College women's soccer team scored six goals en route to a 6-0 drubbing of Yeshiva University on Friday, in the first game of the 2013 season for both programs. The six goals is the second most scored in the history of the second year program.

This is the second time in as many seasons that Lehman has defeated Yeshiva in the season opener. In 2012, the score was 4-1.

The Lightning (1-0) scored early and often, taking a 2-0 lead into halftime. Sophomore Juliana Generoso (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) netted two of her three goals in the first half. She would add an assist in the second half as well.

In those final 45 minutes, the remaining goals came from freshman reserve Leidy Valenci (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains), classmate Yessica Estrella (Bronx, N.Y./Manhattan Center), and sophomore Samantha Dias (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot).

In goal, sophomore Melanie Varillas (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) made three saves in 65 minutes, while classmate Marleny Hernandez (New York, N.Y./American Studies) finished out the final 25 minutes, maintaining a perfect sheet.

Lehman peppered YU's keeper, Elana Kook, with 22 total shots, including 13 on target. Generoso led the way with nine total shots.

Lehman will travel to the Throggs Neck section of the Bronx for the next game, facing SUNY Maritime College on September 4, at 7:00 p.m.
