Women's Soccer Opens CUNYAC Play Against Staten Island

Box Score

BRONX, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's soccer team endured a 4-0 loss at the hands of CUNYAC powerhouse Staten Island on Wednesday night. The match was the CUNY Athletic Conference opener for both sides.

CSI (6-0-1, 1-0 CUNYAC) took a 3-0 lead into halftime, and controlled the match.

Lehman's best opportunity came early in the second half, on a set piece. The Lightning (4-4-0, 0-1 CUNYAC)  had a free kick from just outside the box, and sophomore Juliana Generoso (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) hit a rocket into the top corner, which was barely punched out by the CSI keeper.

On the night, sophomore keeper Melanie Varillas (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) made seven saves in goal to take the loss. Classmate Marleny Hernandez (New York, N.Y./American Studies) made four saves as well.

The Lightning have a few days to prepare for the next match, on Saturday, September 21, when Brooklyn College comes to the Bronx for a noon start.
