Varillas Anchors Defense in Women's Soccer loss to CUNYAC Power Brooklyn

Box Score BRONX, N.Y. - The Lehman College women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to conference rival, Brooklyn College, on Saturday afternoon at South Field.

The Bulldogs (7-0, 2-0 CUNY Athletic Conference) scored one goal in each half to secure the victory.

The Lightning (4-5, 0-2 CUNY Athletic Conference) had several good chances in the second half, as sophomore midfielder Juliana Generoso (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) kept rushing up the field to setup plays in front. Sophomore defender Samantha Dias (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) launched the ball from 15 yards out that was stopped by Brooklyn's goalkeeper.

Sophomore net minder Melanie Varillas (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) made 11 saves to help lead the Lehman defense, who held BC well below their 5.17 goals per game average.

Lehman will be back in action on Wednesday, September 25, when they take on York College for another CUNY Athletic Conference battle on the South Field. The game is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m.
