Generoso's Heroics Lift Women's Soccer Over NYU-Poly in Championship Game

ALLENTOWN, PENN. – Sophomore Juliana Generoso scored her team-leading sixth goal of the young season with barely two minutes remaining in regulation, as the Lehman College women's soccer team defeated NYU-Polytechnic, 1-0, in the Championship Game of the Cedar Crest College Soccer Tournament on Sunday afternoon.

Generoso (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) had scored twice in the opening game of the tournament on Saturday, as Lehman (3-1) hammered St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn, 4-0. She was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.

Classmate Melanie Varillas (New Rochelle,N.Y./New Rochelle) played all 90 minutes in goal, earning her third shutout of the season, including her second straight. She made five saves.

The game was very tight, with NYU-Poly (1-1) outshooting Lehman, 5-4.

In a scheduling quirk, these two teams will meet again in just three days, as the Lightning host NYU-Poly on Wednesday, September 11, at 7:00 p.m.
