BRONX, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's basketball team scored over 100 points for the third time this season, topping York (N.Y.) College, 101-71, on Saturday afternoon. The Lightning put on a dazzling display in front of a packed APEX, as Lehman College celebrated Homecoming 2014.
Seven different players scored in the game for Lehman (11-6, 5-3 CUNYAC). The difference in the game came from the free throw line, however, as Lehman made 26 of 30 attempts, while York (2-13, 1-7 CUNYAC) managed just 16 makes in 41 attempts.
The Cardinals played well early in the game, and led 8-4, five minutes into the game. Lehman then went on a 15-0 run to seize control. Freshman Amely Del Rosario (Bronx, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) scored 17 of her game-high 30 points in the first half, as Lehman led 48-27 at the break.
In the second half, the lead hovered around 20 points until the final few minutes of the game. The Lightning would eventually lead by as many as 33 points, with 3:04 to play.
Sophomore Amani Lightbourne (Elmsford, N.Y./Alexander Hamilton) scored 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for Lehman, who next travel to Medgar Evers College on Wednesday, January 22. Junior Shalaya Nieves (Camden, Del./Caesar Rodney) also recorded a double-double, with 15 points and ten caroms, while sophomore Jennifer Navarro (Jamaica, N.Y./Grover Cleveland) had 19 points and six assists.
