Late Shooting Woes Hamper Women's Basketball

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The visiting Lehman College women's basketball team dropped a 73-60 decision at Hunter College on Friday night, in a key CUNY Athletic Conference matchup. Lehman drops to 6-4 in the CUNYAC (12-7 overall), while Hunter improves to 5-5 in the CUNYAC (8-11) overall.

The two teams have now split the season series, with each team winning on its own home court.

Tonight, Lehman used a 13-0 run early in the second half to take a commanding 15-point lead, 53-38, with 14:00 remaining in the game. However, from there, Lehman seemed to drop an anchor, as the host Hawks exploded, outscoring Lehman 35-7 over the rest of the game.

Lehman's last points of the game came with 4:19 remaining, and cut Hunter's lead to 60-58.

For the game, four different Lehman players reached double digits in scoring, led by junior Shalaya Nieves (Camden, Del./Caesar Rodney), with 13. Sophomore Jennifer Navarro (Jamaica, N.Y./Grover Cleveland) and freshman Amely Del Rosario (Bronx, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) each had 12, while freshman Genesis Liberato (Santo Domingo, D.R./Liceo Ramon Matias Mella) scored 11.

For the game, Lehman shot just 32.3% from the field, making just 20 field goals.

The Lightning now have an eight day layoff before taking the hardwood again, heading out to Brooklyn College on Saturday, February 1.
