8th Annual CUNYAC Coaches vs. Cancer Basketball Classic to Begin Today at Lehman

BRONX, N.Y. – Monday is a very special game day, as Lehman College will host the 8th Annual CUNY Athletic Conference Coaches vs. Cancer Basketball Classic. This prestigious two-day event will feature five schools from all over the country. Four women's teams will compete in a true tournament format, while two single games will highlight the men's schedule. Schools are travelling from Michigan, Virginia, New Jersey, and Maine to participate in this Classic.

In the first round, on Monday at 12:00 p.m., Adrian (Mich.) College will face the defending ECAC Metro/Upstate tournament champions, Kean (N.J.) University, followed by the Lehman women's team hosting Shenandoah (Va.) University, in the second women's matchup, at 2:00 p.m. Live stats for both games will be available here. The two winners will face each other in the Championship game, on Tuesday, at 2:00 p.m., following the Consolation game, at noon.

The Lehman men's team will compete against Shenandoah, on Monday, at 4:00 p.m. You can follow the game on the live stats page.

There will also be live streaming video of all three games. Before you come to the APEX Main Gym, be sure to print out the Coaches vs. Cancer commemorative program.

Tickets, which are $5 apiece per day, can be purchased at the APEX and include admission for the three games played that day. Concessions will be available throughout the weekend, including beverages, and light snacks. Raffle tickets will also be available for $5 each, with the grand prize a flat screen television. Other prizes include game tickets for the New York Knicks. T-shirts and other giveaways will also be available throughout the Coaches vs. Cancer Basketball Classic.

In 2013, the event held at Lehman College raised over $1,300.

The Classic benefits the Coaches vs. Cancer program, a collaborative initiative of the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), which leverages the personal experiences, community leadership, and professional excellence of basketball coaches nationwide to increase cancer awareness and promote healthy living through year-round awareness efforts, fundraising activities, and advocacy programs. This program provides critical mission outreach, while raising funds in support of the American Cancer Society's lifesaving efforts to help people stay well and get well, find cures, and fight back through legislative action at the local, state, and national levels. Since 1993, high school and college coaches across the country have raised nearly $87 million to support the Society's fight against cancer.
