Navarro's 31 Points Not Enough as Women's Basketball Falls in ECAC Championships

Box Score

UNION, N.J. - Lehman College women's basketball sophomore guard Jennifer Navarro's 31 points were not enough, as the #8 Lightning fell to #1Cougars of Kean University, 73-57, in the Quarterfinals of the ECAC Division III Metro Championships on Wednesday evening. This was Lehman's first post-season berth, since winning the ECAC Metro Championship on 2011.

The Lightning end the 2013-14 season with a 16-11 record.

Tonight, in the second half, Lehman fell behind by 16 when Navarro (Jamaica, N.Y./Grover Cleveland) sparked a potential rally by nailing a three-pointer to shrink the deficit to 47-34 with 14:02 remaining in regulation. Just over three minutes later, she hit back-to-back three's to shrink Kean's lead to 49-40.

Junior forward Shalaya Nieves (Camden, Del./Caesar Rodney) added a layup to pull Lehman within seven with 8:50 left to play in the second half. However, that was as close as Lehman would get as Kean would surge to a 12-0 run in the next four minutes to put the game out of reach.

For the game, Navarro had 31 points, a season-high, including seven baskets from beyond the arc. Nieves tallied a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds while forcing six steals. Freshman guard Amely Del Rosario (Bronx, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) scored 10 points, dished out four assists, forced three steals, and recorded two blocks.
