NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's volleyball team dropped a hard-fought non-conference match at Mt. St. Mary College on Tuesday night, 3-1. Set scores were 25-15, 23-25, 25-21, and 25-12.

The match was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams playing exceptionally well.

In the first set, the score was tied 15 all when MSMC (7-11) went on a 10-0 run to clinch the set.

In the second, the Lightning (6-8) rebounded, racing out to an 8-2 lead. Lehman used a 6-0 run, which featured back-to-back kills by sophomore Salveira Gonzalez (Bronx, N.Y./Riverdale-Kingsbridge Academy) and back-to-back service aces by senior Cari English (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman).The set remained tight, then, with Lehman leading 24-23, Gonzalez took a feed from junior Imani Dubois (West Palm Beach, Fla./J.P. Taravella) and knocked home one of her match-high 13 kills to even the match at one set apiece.

In the third set, Lehman got as close as down by three, 19-16, on a kill by senior Julia Mercado (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman). But the hosts would hold on, claiming the set.

Moving to the fourth set, Lehman dug an early hole, going down 10-3. It was a deficit that Lehman could not overcome, and MSMC took the match, 3-1.

On the night, Gonzalez led the Lehman attack with 13 kills. English added three kills and 17 digs, while Dubois added four kills, 18 assists, and 11 digs.

Lehman will next travel to face Brooklyn College in a vital CUNY Athletic conference match on Thursday, September 25.
