Box Score BRONX, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's volleyball team earned a non-conference victory over St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn, 3-1, on Friday evening at the APEX Main Gym. Set scores were 23-25, 25-16, 25-16, and 25-19.
The Lightning (8-7) were led by senior outside hitter
Jo-Marie Aquino (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman), who tallied a match-high 25 kills and added 18 digs for her eight double-double of the season. She also added three service aces.
After dropping a tight first set, the Lightning stormed out of the gates in the second by scoring the first 12 points. In that span, Aquino produced three kills and sophomore outside hitter
Lindsay Pantaleon (New York, N.Y./George Washington) scored three service aces. The Lightning never looked back as Aquino slammed home another kill to clinch the second stanza for the Lightning, 25-16.
In the third set, senior setter
Imani Dubois (West Palm Beach, Fla./J.P. Taravella) produced back-to-back service aces to give Lehman a commanding 17-9 advantage. After the Lady Bears (3-5) scored the next two points, the Blue and Gold struck back by scoring the next five, highlighted by two kills from junior opposite hitter
Salveira Gonzalez (Bronx, N.Y./Riverdale-Kingsbridge Academy) to extend Lehman's lead to 22-11. The Lightning went on to win the third set, 25-16, to put the Lady Bears on the brink.
In the fourth set, the Lightning got off to another fast start and took a 10-3 lead. St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn battled back to tie the match at 12. From that point on, Aquino took over by slamming home five kills in a row to put Lehman up 17-12. The Lady Bears never recovered as Aquino's 25
th kill clinched Lehman's eighth victory of the season.
For the match, Gonzalez added 12 kills and three assists, while Dubois produced seven kills, 15 digs, four aces, and a match-high 40 assists. Sophomore libero
Lizette Medina (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) helped anchor the defense with 17 digs of her own. Sophomore outside hitter
Monique Young (Bronx, N.Y./Harry S. Truman) added one block.
