The Lightning Give the Pioneers All They Can Handle But Come Up Short

Box Score
Bronx, NY - Despite four players in double figures the Lehman (1-2) men's basketball team fell to William Paterson (3-0) 73-71 in a non-conference battle in Wayne, New Jersey.

Olando Minott paced the Lightning with 15 points while team mates Yoav Elbez added 13 points.  Niv Solomon and Andrew Utate registered 12 apiece.

The Lightning owned a 39-36 at halftime thanks in part to Utate who tallied all his points in the first twenty minutes.  Lehman trailed by seven, 28-21 with seven minutes to play in the first half but went on an 18-8 run to close the half.  Minott sparked the spurt with six of the 18 points.

Three and half minutes into the second half a John Brens lay-up gave the Lightning their biggest lead of the night at 49-40.  However, over the next three and half minutes the Pioneers would go on a 9-0 run to knot the game at 49.  After Solomon drained a pair of free throws with 2:41 remaining, the Lightning were on top 65-61.  But a 10-0 spurt by the Pioneers gave William Paterson a 71-65 advantage with 17 seconds remaining.  The Lightning did go on a 6-2 to end the game but could not complete the comeback.

The Pioneers were led by Zach Frick coming off the bench with 15 points.

Lehman will host their home opener on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 PM against the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.
