Box Score Fredericksburg, Va. – The Lehman College women's basketball team suffered a non-conference loss to Meredith College, 80-67, in the opening round of the Mary Washington Tournament on Friday evening. Lehman drops its record to 1-3.
The Lightning had a 56-52 lead after three quarters, but the Avenging Angels (1-2) were able to pull away in the fourth quarter, outscoring Lehman 28-11, to clinch the victory.
In the closing seconds of the opening half, junior guard
Amely Del Rosario found senior guard
Jennifer Navarro, who drained a three-point basket just as time expired to narrow Meredith College's lead to 41-40 at halftime.
Just 18 seconds into the second half, Del Rosario nailed a shot from beyond the arc to give Lehman a 43-41 lead. Later in the third quarter, Del Rosario capitalized on another three-point shot to extend Lehman's lead to 56-50, with just 1:28 left to play in the stanza.
The fourth quarter started out well for Lehman as senior forward
Yarmese Jones converted a layup to extend the Lightning's lead to 58-52, just 11 seconds in. It all went downhill from that point, as the Avenging Angels scored 13 unanswered points to take a commanding 65-58 lead, with just over five minutes remaining. Lehman never got closer as Meredith College won the game, 80-67.
Navarro scored 27 points and dished out four assists, while Del Rosario scored 21 points and had four assists. Senior forward

Lehman will battle Randolph College in the consolation game on Saturday, beginning at 12:00 p.m.
