Coach Harrison looks ahead to the Hoop MIA Holiday Tournament
Bronx, NY – The Lehman College Women's basketball team will travel to Miami, Florida to participate in the Hoop MIA Holiday Tournament.
Eastern University is the designated host for this year's tournament. The Lehman women will join 13 other programs from the Eastern part of the United States for four days of NCAA Division III Basketball in sunny South Florida. Ten men's teams and four women's teams will each play two games between Dec. 18-21. Lehman will play on the final two days of the tournament.
Lehman will take to the court on December 20
th to face FDU-Florham. On the final day of the tournament the Lightning will battle host Eastern. Tip-off both days is 2:00 pm.
The Lightning come into the Holiday Tournament with a record of 3-4 having just dropped games to Brooklyn and Staten Island. Four members of Coach Harrison's squad are averaging double figures. Senior
Amely Del Rosario leads the nation in scoring with a 27.9 points per game average. Newcomers
Lynda Fields is netting 19.6 points per game. Meanwhile teammates
Krystal Pearson and
Shakia Artist are chipping in 14.6 and 10.3 points per contest.
The Devils of FDU are 5-2 and will face Hartwick before the match-up with Lehman. Before making the trip to South Beach the Devils won their last three. Kendrea Williams leads FDU in scoring. She is averaging 18 per night. Three of her team mates, Taiah Thornton, Alyssa McDonough and Rachel Groom are also averaging double figures.
Eastern is also 5-2 and is being led by Emily Lavin. The senior New Jersey native is averaging 17 points per game. Regie Robinson, Taylor Price and Amanda Riiff are also adding double digits each game.
The games will be held at Immaculata-LaSalle High School in Miami and will feature five teams that saw action in the NCAA Division III tournament last year. Several teams have players with South Florida ties. Games will start a 2 pm, 4 pm, 6 pm, and 8 pm on each of the first three days of the shootout. On the 21st, the games will start at 2 pm and 4 pm.
