Bronx, N.Y. -- The Lehman College used their strong defensive performance all game to snap a five-game losing streak as they defeated Alvernia, 70-41, in the Coaches vs. Cancer Holiday Shootout consolation game Friday afternoon at the APEX Center.

The Lightning (4-7) were led by
Amely Del Rosario, who secured a double-double with a game-high 23 points along with 11 rebounds. She also added six steals and five assists and was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Krystal Pearson compiled a double-double of her own, tallying 17 points and grabbing a game-best 15 rebounds.
Shakia Artist chipped in with eight points and nine boards, while
Lynda Fields dished out five assists with eight points in the victory.

Maya Cooper led the way for Alvernia (0-12) in a losing effort, scoring a team-high 11 points with five rebounds. She was named to the All-Tournament team along with Del Rosario. Miranda Hoover corralled a team-high 11 rebounds with eight points, and Torie Zerbe fell one point and rebound shy of a double-double (nine points, nine boards).

Lehman's defense held their opponents to just 12-for-65 (18.5%) from the field the whole game, and remained active with 17 steals to force 23 total turnovers. They also out rebounded them 55-51, then dished out 16 assists to Alvernia's six.

In the Coaches vs. Cancer championship matchup, SUNY Poly played York (Pa.) where York emerged victorious in a wild 68-63 thriller. Rounding out the All-Tournament team were Stevie Ray from Poly along with York's Katie McGowan and Sam Mocniak, who was named tournament's Most Valuable Player.

Up next for the Lehman women's team is their first game of 2017, when they head to Queens for a CUNYAC matchup with York (N.Y.) as part of a doubleheader with the men's team January 4th. Tip time is set for 6:00 p.m.
