For finishing the regular season with the best record in the conference, the Lightning (18-7 / 12-4 CUNYAC) have received a bye into the semifinals of the Tournament. Lehman will play the winner of Saturday's quarterfinal game which will feature fifth seeded Baruch College playing at fourth seeded Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn.
The dynamic duo of seniors
Chaun Miller and
Olando Minott lead the Lightning on the court, both of whom were voted CUNYAC/U.S. Army ROTC All-Stars this season. Miller earned a spot on the First Team while Minott took Second Team honors.
Miller is the team's leading scorer at 18.7 points per game and the top rebounder at 7.2 boards per game. He scored a career high 30 points against Brooklyn College earlier this season.
In his two years at Lehman College, Minott has emerged as the team's captain and undisputed leader, averaging 17.4 points per game on 50 percent shooting with 5.6 rebounds per game. Minott scored a career-high 31 points against Yeshiva earlier this season, and later pulled down a career-best ten boards against Baruch. A force at both ends of the court, Minott was also voted CUNYAC co-Defensive Player of the Year.
Sophomore
Andrew Utate has emerged as the team's third option on offense and a potent three-point shooter. In Lehman's incredible come-from-behind win against the College of Staten Island on February 16
th, Utate exploded for a career-high 36 points off the bench, shooting 13 of 19 from the floor.
Sophomore point guard
John Brens has guided the offense and plays the passing lanes on defense, averaging 8.6 points, 4.4 assists and 2.7 steals per game.
Senior center
Olusegun Williams is the sole four-year member of this year's team, and he has made the most of his final season with the Lightning. During the recent seven-game stretch that saw Lehman go 5-2, Williams averaged 14.7 points and eight rebounds per game on 55 percent shooting. A fantastic teammate and member of the Lehman community, Williams was named to the CUNYAC Sportsmanship Team this season.
Head Coach Steve Schulman has produced one of the best coaching performances of his career this season, and was voted the CUNYAC Coach of the Year in recognition for his accomplishments.
Lehman will tip-off on Tuesday, February 23
rd at 6:00 p.m. at the City College of New York when they will face fifth-seeded Baruch College. The Lightning won both games against the Bearcats earlier this season.
