Box Score Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's volleyball team rallied back to take the first set, then battled back in the third as they won in straight sets to York (N.Y.), 3-0 [25-20, 25-15, 25-22] in CUNYAC play at home in the Apex Main Gym Thursday night.
The Lightning (4-3, 2-1 CUNYAC) were led by
Salveira Gonzalez, who slammed a team-high nine kills along with five digs.
Lindsay Pantaleon helped with seven kills and a team-best five service aces, while
Caitlin Vernon chipped in with three kills and three aces. Primary setter
Samantha Delgado dished out 17 assists in the victory
For York (2-6, 1-2 CUNYAC), Shauncia McClendon led the way in a losing effort with three kills and a game-best eight service aces.
The first set saw the Lightning trail 10-6 when libero
Yaidee Nieves began serving, leading to ten straight Lehman points that included six attack errors and two Pantaleon kills. After a flurry of McClendon service aces, Lehman held on for a 25-20 win.
In the second, the team jumped out for the first four points of the set and never looked back as they built a lead as big as 16-4 in their 25-15 win. Both teams traded the lead numerous times in the third set and York would take a 15-10 advantage.
Nieves would ace a point along with a Vernon kill and some Cardinal mistakes to tie the game. Even at 18, Pantaleon help seal the game with three service aces then Gonzalez would slam two kills late to earn their first home win.
Lehman will return to action Saturday afternoon as part of a tri-match, facing Sarah Lawrence College at 1:00 p.m. and host New Jersey City University at 3:00 p.m.
