Box Score New York, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's volleyball team lost in straight sets to CUNYAC foe Hunter College, 3-0 [25-11, 25-12, 25-15], Tuesday night at the Hunter Sportsplex.
Lindsay Panteleon led the Lightning (4-8, 2-3 CUNYAC) in defeat with a team-high five kills, while
Salveira Gonzalez added four kills, five service aces and nine digs.
Samantha Delgado collected all nine of the team's assists, while
Yaidee Nieves totaled a team-best 10 digs.
The Hawks (10-8, 5-0 CUNYAC) were led by Samantha Barrett, who slammed a game-best 11 kills and three blocks as they won their fifth straight conference match. Julia Connolly chipped in with seven kills, and Taylor Kerr-Haiduk added six kills with three aces.
In the first set, both teams battled back and forth for control. With Lehman trailing 14-11, Hunter scored the final 11 points including five service aces to take the first set 25-11. The second saw the Lightning push ahead early in the set, but the Hawks would score eight of the final nine points for the set win.
Lehman would fall behind by as many as 21-8 in the third set. They would stage a small comeback with five straight Gonzalez service aces, but the rally would come too late as the Hawks earned a straight-set win.
The Lightning looks to snap their five-match losing streak when they return to action Friday night, when they travel to Bronxville to face Sarah Lawrence College. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
