Brooklyn, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's soccer team got above the .500 mark with an 8-0 win over Medgar Evers in a game played at MCU Park in Brooklyn on Saturday. The Lightning are now 7-6-1 overall and 3-1 in CUNYAC play.
Daniela Castro and
Valeria Rojas Alingue each scored twice for Lehman. Four other players tallied a goal each. Lehman got on the board just barely two minutes into action when Rojas Alingue chipped a ball from midfield that got past the keeper for the opening tally. The score went to 2-0 Lightning at 6:41 when
Lillian Barreto found
Daisy Gomez in the middle of the box. Gomez put her shot into the left side of the net. Castro's first goal came at 17:19 on an unassisted marker. Less than a minute later, Rojas Alingue connected on her second tally of the game, making the score 4-0.
Lehman got four more goals in the second half to seal the 8-0 win. Castro scored first, just past the hour mark.
Sheila Davila netted her first goal of the campaign to make the score 6-0. Finally,
Emily Herrera and
Melanie Siranaula closed out the scoring.
In the win,
Rebecca Gritz made three saves. Lehman outshot Medgar, 22-5 and took four corner kicks to just one for the Panthers. The victory marks the fourth-straight win for Lehman. They have not conceded a goal during the win streak and have outscored their opponents 21-0 in that stretch.
The Lehman College women's soccer team returns to action Wednesday, October 18, when they meet John Jay on the road. The kickoff is scheduled for 4 PM.
