Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's soccer team earned the third seed in the upcoming CUNYAC championship courtesy of a 5-0 shutout of Brooklyn College from the South Field on Saturday. The team improved to 8-7-1 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
Lehman got on the board nearly half an hour into play when
Daniela Castro played a ball in the box behind her to
Daisy Gomez who blasted it home from 23 yards out. The score went to 2-0 nearly seven minutes later when a Gredia Sanchez through ball found Castro who scored. At 37:14 the goal of the game came off the foot of
Melanie Siranaula who chipped the ball over the keeper from about 40 yards out.
The Lightning got two more markers in the second half to earn the 5-0 win. The first came off a free kick from the foot of Sanchez, about 30 yards out. The final goal was converted in the box by Castro at 81:21.
In the game,
Rebecca Gritz made three saves to earn her eighth clean sheet of the season. Lehman will face John Jay in the upcoming CUNYAC championships, but first, the Lightning close out their regular-season on Monday, October 23, when they host Yeshiva on the South Field at 6:30 PM.
