Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's volleyball team split a doubleheader at the Apex on Tuesday, falling to Brooklyn College, 3-0, but rebounding with a win over St. Joseph's, 3-1. Prior to the game,
Yzaira Galan was honored in the Senior Day ceremony.
The Lightning lost the opening game to the Bulldogs, 3-0. The scores of the sets were 25-22, 25-18 and 25-8.
Samantha Delgado had 19 assists, while
Sandra Izaguirre recorded 11 digs and five kills, both team-bests. Galan had three kills and four digs.
Lehman rebounded in the second match to defeat St. Joseph's, 3-1. The scores went 25-19, 25-15, 25-22 and 25-22.
Caitlin Vernon helped the Lighting take set one with a pair of kills for the final two points. Lehman used a 7-0 run to take control in set two. With the scored knotted at 6-6, Galan's serves keyed the scoring spree. The points came from five attack errors and kills from Vernon and Izaguirre. After the Bears took set three, a Vernon kill finished them off in the fourth set.
Paulette Sepulveda finished with 29 digs and nine kills, while Vernon totaled a dozen kills. Delgado had a double-double of 28 assists and 12 digs. The team is now 7-20 overall.
The Lehman College women's volleyball team closes out the regular-season on Saturday, October 28, when they face Manhattanville College in Purchase, New York at 1PM.
