INTERVIEW WITH GRITZ AND HERRERA
Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's soccer team got goals from six different players in 8-0 win over York. The victory is the second-straight for the Lightning and improved the 5-6-1 overall and 2-1 in CUNYAC play.
Lehman was on the offensive early on, peppering York with shots and keeping the ball in the Cardinals half of the field. The Lightning were rewarded for their persistence in the 14
th minute when a throw in from
Estefany Balbuena right next to the corner flag found
Lillian Barreto who turned and shot the ball into the net for the game's first goal. Two minutes later,
Daniela Castro found
Emily Herrera in the box who made the score 2-0, Lehman. In the 19
th minute, it was Castro who scored off a feed from
Melanie Siranaula. The Lightning went up 4-0 at 19:40 when
Daisy Gomez blasted a shot past the keeper from 30 yards out. The game went to 5-0 when Siranaula found the back of the net with a flick from outside the box at 22:14. The score was 5-0 at the half.
Lehman got three more markers in the second half to go on and win 8-0. Gomez and Siranaula scored unassisted goals, while Valerie Rojas Alingue found the back of the net on a penalty kick. Siranaula earned her second multi-goal game of the season, also having scored twice against Purchase. Gomez also had her second multi-goal game of the year, having recorded a hat trick versus CCNY back in September.
The Lehman College women's soccer team returns to action on Wednesday, October 11, when they face SUNY Old Westbury at 4PM on Long Island.
