Box Score Fredericksburg, Va. – The Lehman College women's basketball team dropped the opening game in the Hyatt Place Tipoff Tournament, 74-65, to Gettysburg College on Friday in Fredericksburg, Virginia. The team is now 1-1 on the season.
The game was back and forth in the first quarter. It would eventually end at a 16-16 tie, but Lehman led by as many as three points when a
Lillybeth Garcia layup at 7:12 made the score 8-5.
Gettysburg opened the second quarter with an 8-0 run to go up, 24-16. Lehman responded with a 7-0 run of their own to pull within 24-23.
Lynda Fields started the scoring spree with a layup.
Olivia Stewart followed with a jumper.
Ayanna Behagen capped the run with a three-pointer. The Lightning could never get over the final hurdle though, and trailed 35-30 at the half.
Gettysburg opened up a double-digit lead in the third quarter, before Lehman squelched it to within eight points, 58-50, heading into the final ten minutes.
The Bullets hit a three-pointer to open the fourth quarter, and their advantage was back in double digits, at 61-50. Lehman fought back and used a 10-4 run to pull within five points, at 65-60.
Lillybeth Garcia accounted for four of the points,
Lynda Fields and
Lisa Fields each had two points, while
Alliyah Dorsett made a bucket. The Lightning could get no closer than five points, as Gettysburg went on to win, 74-65.
Dorsett had six points and a team-high 14 rebounds. Behagen totaled 14 points and five steals. Garcia shot 6-of-12 for 13 points and dished out five assists.
The Lehman College women's basketball team meets the loser of the Mary Washington & Wesleyan game in the consolation game on Saturday.
