Box Score Staten Island, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's basketball team battled throughout and never relinquished the lead as they defeated the College of Staten Island, 79-75, in a crucial CUNYAC matchup at the CSI Sports and Recreation Complex Friday night.

The Lightning (15-8, 13-2 CUNYAC) have now won their fifth straight and their 11th consecutive conference victory. They now move ahead of the Dolphins for sole control of second place, and currently are in a virtual tie for first in the CUNYAC with Brooklyn College.

Krystal Pearson fell one assist shy of a triple-double, tallying 13 points with 15 rebounds and nine assists in the victory. Also, Marika Gordon posted a double-double of her own with 16 points and 14 boards, while Amely Del Rosario led the team with 19 points to go with seven rebounds and three blocks.

Off the bench, Marta Czaplak chipped in with 13 points, connecting on three three-pointers to provide a spark.

For the Dolphins (19-6, 13-3 CUNYAC), Samantha Flecker poured in a game-high 23 points along with 11 rebounds in a losing effort. Christina Pasaturo tallied a double-double (20 points, 12 boards), while Angelique Price (17) and Victoria Crea (15) scored in double figures.

Lehman dominated inside, scoring 44 points in the paint as the team shot 45.4% in the second half to hold on to their advantage. They also got 19 points off their bench and scored more second chance points despite being outrebounded by Staten Island, 55-49.

Defensively, the team held Staten Island to just 32.9% from the field all game. They forced 21 turnovers, and converted on 18 points off those Dolphin mistakes.

The Lightning close out CUNYAC regular season play next Monday on the road when they face Hunter College as part of a doubleheader with the men's team. Tip time is set for 5:00 p.m.
