Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's soccer team opened CUNYAC play with a 2-0 loss to the College of Staten Island in a game played in the Bronx on Wednesday. The team is now 1-3-1 overall and 0-1 in the league.
Both markers came in the first half off play off of corner kicks by Lizabeth Aparicio. The Lightning defense was scrappy and thwarted several offensive rushes for the Dolphins. Current CUNAYAC Rookie of the Week,
Rebecca Gritz, made a pair of second-half saves to help keep Lehman in the game.
The Lightning pushed the ball forward late in the contest, having a couple of scoring chances in the final 15 minutes of action.
Emily Herrera had the first opportunity with a shot on goal in the 75
th minute. The save by the Dolphins keeper led to a corner kick.
In the final ten minutes, a shot from Gredia Sanchez was turned aside, and with less than five minutes remaining, a flurry in front of the net led to a pair of flicks Pamela Sanchez, but both were off target.
The Lehman College women's soccer team returns to action on Friday, September 15, when they host Purchase College. The kickoff is scheduled for 5PM.
