Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's soccer team used a pair of goals from freshman Melanie Siranaula en route to a 3-0 blanking of SUNY Purchase in a game played at the South Field on Friday.  The team improved to 2-3-1 overall.

The Lightning went on the offensive from the opening whistle.  The team pressed the attack early and were rewarded with the game's first goal in the 20th minute.  After Purchase tried to play ball out of their end, Pamela Sanchez stole it just in front of the midfield line.  From there she went on a short run and played the ball into the box where Siranaula beat the defense and flicked it past the keeper to put the Lightning up 1-0.  The score stayed there into halftime.

The game got more physical in the second half as the Panthers used a frenetic pace to try and even the score.  Lehman would capitalize in the 79th minute.  Daniela Castro had the ball in the right corner of the box.  She played it back to the top of the box for Siranaula, who blasted it home inside the near post, making the score 2-0, Lightning.

With the game well in hand, Lehman got an insurance marker in the final minute.  Sanchez had the ball in the right side of the box.  She flicked it on net and Lillian Barreto got a knee on it and deflected it in.  The Lightning won 3-0.

Rebecca Gritz made six saves to record the clean sheet.  She was aided by stellar defensive play led by Gredia Sanchez.

The Lehman College women's soccer team returns to the pitch on Sunday, September 17, when they cross the Hudson for a matchup against FDU-Florham in Madison, New Jersey.  The kickoff is scheduled for noon.
